POSITION OVERVIEW
As part of a team of other Financial Analysts, the Accounts Receivable Financial Analyst will manage accounts receivable activities, including defining policy and controls, establishing processes and procedures, resolving issues, monitoring, and analyzing accounts receivable balances, and creating reports and business intelligence. Supports HDH departments throughout in the areas of customer maintenance, billing, payment applications, collections, and training.
Provides guidance, training, and support to HDH financial officers. Collaborates with campus divisions involved in accounting for cashiering, banking activities, credit cards, and accounts receivable. Responsible for performing duties in support of accounts receivable operations. Includes, reconciliation with various subledgers, external systems, merchant accounts, collections, and revenue recognition. Ensures the accurate compilation, analysis, and reporting of accounting data and revenue. Provides accounting support and policy guidance to HDH departments. Institute's policies and procedures to monitor accuracy and timing in the accounting of transactions. Ensures proper internal controls are in place and functioning, timely resolution of reconciling items and other variances while evaluating any underlying systems or process issues causing the variances.
This position involves accounting functions such as analyzing, monitoring, preparing, and reconciling financial information to reflect the condition of the organization and provide financial and other statistical data to control operations. Provides support for monitoring/maintenance of accounting systems and chart of accounts. The incumbent independently prepares journal entries, maintains and/or reconciles general ledger accounts, utilizes, and applies accounting practices and standards in the completion of work assignments, prepares ad hoc analyses/financial reports/spreadsheets as requested. This will include accounting assignments that require basic financial analyses and review of data from a variety of factors and multiple sources.
The Accounts Receivable Financial Analyst responsibilities include comprehensive high-level research, analysis, and reconciliation of Housing, Dining, Hospitality departmental records to monthly operating ledgers. Interpret financial data and determine appropriate classification of income or expense. Determine the appropriate methods to correct discrepancies including initiation of financial journals, encumbrance adjustments, and transfer of funds. Independently prepare assigned monthly Financial Operating Reports for Senior Managers & Associate Directors.
The incumbent will use professional concepts, apply organizational policies and procedures to resolve various issues and work on problems of limited to moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of multiple factors. They will exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Contacts are primarily internal to the department, but may also be external.

Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 7 divisions, with over 700 career employees, 1000 to 1200 student employees and an annual operating budget greater than $256 million. HDH provides housing for approximately 18,000 undergraduates, grad students, faculty, staff and their families in over 400 buildings covering over 8 million sq. ft. HDH is in the midst of implementing an aggressive building plan which added 10,000 new beds in the next 10 years and will almost double our square footage by 2032.
Currently, HDH houses 38% of UCSD's enrolled students with a goal of housing 65% by 2032. HDH provides maintenance and repair, contract meals/meal plan management, as well as retail food service, conference services and catering services to residents, students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
