The Multimedia Content Manager will be inspired by the challenge of balancing evidence-based nutritional guidelines with engaging and accessible recipes and cooking tips informed by the needs of cancer patients and caregivers, as well as people interested in cancer prevention. The Multimedia Content Manger for Cook for Your Life will be responsible for overall program management and implementation of a bilingual public facing and research-enabled website at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) focused on healthy eating, cooking and nutrition for cancer survivors. This includes managing the operations of the site as well as site content. This role will strategize the direction and themes for website content, identify and perform outreach for guest contributors, and create and edit engaging nutritional content for the public website (cookforyourlife.org), weekly blogs and newsletters, video demonstrations, donor communications, and social media channels. This individual will also be responsible for monitoring and managing the overall technical functioning of the website in partnership with outside contractors and Fred Hutch resources.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Heather Greenlee, this role will collaborate on the development of research studies testing the reach and effects of the Cook for Your Life channels. The Multimedia Content Manager will also collaborate with partners within Fred Hutch, University of Washington, and outside institutions and national and international organizations in order to extend the reach of the website. Collaboration, cooperation, strong management skills, and an eye for detail are essential to functioning within this rapidly growing research team that values a positive and interdisciplinary culture. The Cook for Your Life website and Greenlee research team strive to serve and represent culturally, ethnically, geographically, and economically diverse populations.
Responsibilities
Project management:
- Manage all program operations and provide project planning for a large-scale, complex project involving multiple internal and external stakeholders, including partners in the Director's Office, Philanthropy, Business Development and Human Resources
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with Principal Investigator and stakeholders
- Develop full-scale project plans, timelines, and associated communication documents using appropriate tools; identify and manage project dependencies and critical paths; prepare progress reports for funders and stakeholders
- Serve as program liaison with key constituents in other administrative departments and scientific divisions; foster strong collaboration and understanding of capabilities and strategic priorities of internal and external partners
- Assist in developing and coordinating sponsorship opportunities
- Collaborate with team project manager to develop and monitor overall project budget
- Supervise project team by providing positive guidance, leadership, and monitoring performance. Work with Dr. Greenlee and team project manager to identify staffing needs; hire staff and interns as required.
Website management:
- Develop an integrated content strategy based on strategic goals and an understanding of audience needs to build Cook for Your Life's international presence and drive engagement. Proactively develop strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues within and outside of Fred Hutch to inform content development.
- Apply a strategic, audience-focused approach to identifying storytelling opportunities and planning, writing, and adapting clear and accurate content that showcases CFYL mission, values and impact
- Write and edit and manage weekly blog posts and newsletters, recipes, and other website content. Assign and edit guest contributors as needed.
- Identify and coordinate with multimedia partners and oversee visual content, including videography and photography
- Use metrics to manage project scope, budget, and track progress
- Research latest trends in cooking, healthy food, cancer topics, and other related health issues
- Implement and help maintain content and style guidelines
- Supervise social media coordinator and oversee all aspects of project social media. Partner with analysts to track website and social media metrics and use insights gleaned from data to refine content strategy.
- Collaborate regularly with website development contractor to oversee website implementation, function, user interfaces, and design. Prioritize vendor workload and strategize on improvements and increased functionality.
- Be responsible for marketing, design and UX, and content related to website use, and user experience in partnership with technical contractors
Research Collaboration:
- Coordinate with research team to develop and test nutrition education tools delivered via online platforms
- Assist with grant proposal contributions related to Cook for Your Life website as required
- Attend regular research team meetings
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of writing/editing, product/content marketing, and/or content strategy experience, preferably working in nutrition, food, and health-related topics
- Experience running a website
- Proven track record of shaping and executing on an integrated content strategy
- Experience collaborating and leading within a multi-functional organization
- Ability to ideate and execute quickly
- Experience leading teams
Preferred qualifications:
- Understanding of and experience in nonprofit research or health sciences
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Key knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Ability to envision and articulate how content can be presented and distributed for a variety of audiences in diverse formats and across channels, deep understanding of best content and approaches for different audiences
- Demonstrated ability to develop, manage, adapt, and deliver engaging contextual content
- Proven ability to translate complex source material into compelling stories for a variety of audiences, including a lay audience
- Experience applying data analytics to improve content discoverability, readability, and engagement
- Experience editing, reporting, and writing in a fast-paced environment; knowledge of AP Style
- Proficiency in search engine optimization best practices
- Demonstrated ability to set and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to manage and report on complex projects with evolving timelines
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
