Tarleton State University's Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Technology strives to prepare students for life after graduation with quality classroom instruction, hands-on experience in livestock production units and industry interaction through field trips, cooperative education and internships. The faculty and staff are responsible for over 950 students pursuing two undergraduate degrees and a Master of Science in Animal Science. The Department offers a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with six concentrations: pre-veterinary medicine; science; production; business; meat and food science; and range and ranch management. Each concentration can be tailored to meet the career interests of individual students. The Equine Certificate Program provides additional emphasis for students interested in the equine industry regardless of concentration. All students complete similar general education requirements, required by State and University regulations. In addition, the department also offers a Bachelor of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology. The department is part of a multi-discipline doctoral program in Animal and Natural Resource Sciences currently in the app...roval process. The doctoral program builds on the existing research capabilities on the university's campus and the collaborations with other institutions within the Texas A&M University System.
