Job Purpose and Impact
The Regional Microbiology and Food Safety Leader will identify, develop, and drive strategic direction across the Microbiology and Food Safety space. We seek an expert professional with deep knowledge of the technical and manufacturing environments to set strategies, implement programs and define compliance requirements related to our customer’s needs by partnering with Cargill’s Commercial and Research and Development leaders. In this position, you will serve as a technical expert with key customers and build Cargill’s brand by leading and participating externally in specific forums to advance Cargill’s business objectives and influence public and private sector. You will be responsible to the Global Food Safety, Regulatory and Science Leader to coordinate and be an active team member with other FSQR support teams as appropriate.
Preferred location is Minnesota, but there is the potential to work remote for the right candidate.
Key Accountabilities
Maintain in-depth knowledge of microbiology/food safety and quality as well as Cargill businesses globally to identify and anticipate potential risk.
Anticipate internal and external business challenges and regulatory issues, recommending process, product or service improvements.
Conduct the moderately complex and broad analysis of food safety and quality metrics to identify trend/new insights, best practices and areas of opportunity.
Provide moderately complex training related to food/feed safety and quality throughout the organization in a manner that is engaging and produces desired outcomes.
Manage and support the Company on external thought leadership. Participate and manage specific scientific, academic, trade activities in coordination with other functions to advance Cargill’s business objectives and elevate the Cargill Brand.
Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (microbiology, biology, food science) or equivalent experience
Minimum of six years of professional applied microbiology, technical service or food safety experience for food, feed, or agricultural products manufacturing company.
Advanced scientific and current knowledge of food microbiology, including testing methods and risk. Current knowledge of food safety, especially PRPs and HACCP.
Strong plant manufacturing knowledge with demonstrated practical knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment and working with Operations.
Ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively with external groups while ensuring products meet customer specifications.
Advanced risk management skills; must be able to conduct and communicate the results of a scientific evaluation of the known or potential adverse health effects resulting from human or animal exposure to microbiological food borne hazards and manage the appropriate mitigation processes.
Ability to travel up to 40%.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of experience in professional microbiology, technical service or food safety.
Advanced degree in an area directly relevant to microbiology and food safety.
International experience; ability to achieve results in a global environment, with global teams and with diverse groups of people.
Managerial experience in a plant environment.
Intermediate knowledge of the supply chain with the ability to identify and address supplier food safety and quality issues.
Basic knowledge of food laws and regulations regionally first and ideally globally.
