Overview: The Editor in Chief’s primary responsibilities are to lead and execute the management of the Meat and Muscle Biology journal and its editorial policies. This person serves as the primary representative for the journal. It is a part time AMSA position on a contractual basis.

Job Functions: Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:
1. Chair the journal’s Editorial Board and lead the Editorial Board in establishing and maintaining journal editorial policy.
2. Design and direct the review process in a manner that maintains the quality of the manuscripts and the speed to publishing.
3. Ensure the journal content and management meets the vision and concept expected by the association. Ensure that the journal has appropriate metrics to maintain its impact in the scholarly community.
4. Partner with the Chief Executive Officer to oversee the work of the publishing company and coordinate the editorial process with the publishing process.
5. Hire and manage associate editors.
6. Recruit authors.
7. Represent the journal to all third parties.
8. Partner with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of AMSA to oversee the budget of the journal.
9. Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to the AMSA Board of Directors.
10. Serve as non-voting ex-officio member of the AMSA Board of Directors.
11. Search out and promote ideas that will increase the visibility and demand for the journal by both readers and authors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: PhD required and must a strong publication record.
The Editor must:
• Be exceptionally familiar with scientific journal publishing requirements.
• Be an experienced author of journal articles at this or other publications.
• Have experience working remotely with team members to meet objectives for the journal.
• Have Demonstrable project and/or personnel management.
• Have A working knowledge of budgets and financial statements and impact.

• Proven organizational and project management skills, including the ability to build and lead effective work teams and manage a diverse array of projects/tasks. Multitasking is a critical skill to accomplish the variety of goals with varying timelines, budgets, and staffing resources.
• Accessible and able to perform at a high level from a distance, on calls, by email, and electronically.
Flexible location. Must have access to reliable, high-speed internet. Some travel required (3 to 4 times per year) including the possibility of international travel.
