Primary responsibility is to ensure the food safety and quality of all products
Ensure quality procedures are being effectively implemented at the facility:
Including shelf life, process control, mock recalls, allergen control, and environmental testing
Ensure adequate monitoring programs exists for compliance with the company’s GMP’s, sanitation, pest control, and all relevant government regulations.
Design and lead the internal food safety, quality, and process audit program
Verify incoming raw materials and processing procedures such as net weight & label control programs are in place and maintained and ensure production compliance.
Perform supplier assessments to ensure compliance with requirements and standards.
Responsible for the design and implementation of the employee food safety training program
Investigate consumer complaints and determine the validity/root cause of the complaint, including the coordination with appropriate departments to implement effective corrective and preventive actions
Development and maintenance of an approved supplier program. Ensure ingredient suppliers always maintain the highest food safety and quality standards including performing food safety audits when required
Review label copy and labeling to ensure products comply with applicable regulations by providing advice on all the mandatory elements on a label, including declaration of ingredients, nutrition, and disclaimers
Provide technical regulatory expertise on labeling development, i.e. mandatory nutrition labeling, nutrient content claims, ingredient declaration, and allergen labeling
Provide advanced knowledge and understanding of all relevant regulatory trends in areas of food processing, ingredients, formulations, and label compliance at the global level
Responsible for communicating all food safety and regulatory related matters and ensuring the company is informed of any regulatory legislation updates
Periodically review the Crisis Management Program, ensuring that all contact information is kept up-to-date and that any new members are fully informed
Manage 3rd party audits when necessary and be the key regulatory contact for the plant with State and Federal regulators. Maintain positive and constructive relationships while ensuring full compliance with regulatory policies
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Engineering, or related field
2+ years of experience with the direct management of people
Previous food manufacturing/factory setting environment experience. Dairy experience a plus
Experience with SQF/GFSI and FSMA
Strong knowledge of food safety for a manufacturing plant including cleaning and sanitation, pest control, allergen controls, and environmental monitoring programs
Computer skills consistent with job functions
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing)
Advanced knowledge of FDA and USDA Regulations
Spanish and/or Italian language a plus
