Responsible for organizing and ensuring the on time and accurate execution of a large portfolio of shelf life testing for customers across the entire FSNS laboratory network. Provides technical interpretation and reporting on the outcomes of shelf life testing, which includes recommendations for shelf life-related decisions such as expiration dating strategies for new products and modifications to the shelf life of existing products.
Provide technical expertise on all aspects of shelf life testing such as test design and execution, analytical measurements, sensory tests, microbiological characterization, and evaluation of other modes of failure.
Create shelf life study proposals based on customer needs. Proposal generation requires ability to establish both the scientific methodology and pricing for the study.
Coordinate the execution of all shelf life testing for all laboratories across the FSNS laboratory network. This includes coordination of sample shipments and arrivals, setup of samples for proper storage conditions, execution of laboratory testing, and compilation of results of testing.
Provide technical interpretation and reporting on the outcomes of shelf life testing by creating technical reports that are provided to customers. Technical reports include methodology, results, and recommendations for shelf life-related decisions such as expiration dating for new products and modifications to the shelf life of existing products. Technical interpretation may also be discussed verbally with customers in greater detail.
Collaborate with the Lab+ Leadership Team, Lab Employees and Leaders, Sales, and Procurement to thoughtfully include shelf life testing as part of new business proposals/RFPs, processes, and decisions.
Provide unsurpassed customer service, managing sample and testing flow to meet customers’ individual specifications and turnaround time deadlines. Communicate directly with laboratory client base, meeting with customers in person as necessary or as requested.
Adhere to unequivocal technical/scientific standards, quality control processes, and records.
Ensure that results are accurate through management of data traceability in LIMS system and handwritten reports as well as adherence to approved laboratory techniques.
Be proficient in the practical applications of testing methods and industry regulations.
Pursue and have a working knowledge of processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance with the FSNS written policies and procedures.
Maintain a high degree of technical competence by reading scientific journals, attending professional workshops, and being aware of food industry issues and trends.
Responsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their area.
Responsible for the completion of required training.
Carries out all responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, standard operating procedures, and best practices.

BS degree in Microbiology or related field, MS degree preferred
Demonstrated experience with shelf life testing of food products in a commercial setting.
Solid technical knowledge of food safety principles, advanced analytical methods, microbiology, micro challenge testing, accelerated shelf life methods, sensory methodology, product-package interactions, and product-process interactions.
Ability to quickly analyze and interpret complex experimental findings and communicate implications and recommendations to technical and non-technical audience.
Ability to oversee multiple complex technical projects.
Strong organization skills and good attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams on new customers/testing.
Must have an understanding of GMPs, GLPs, and laboratory quality assurance principles and procedures.
Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 preferred.
Experience with laboratory database systems (LIMS) preferred.
