Essential Job Duties:
The Department of Food, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition Sciences (FBNS) seeks applications from highly qualified candidates for Director of the Dairy Enterprise System (DES). The successful candidate is expected to lead and oversee all the research and extension operations and personnel associated with the dairy plant, dairy farm (including cows, freestall barn, calf hutches, pastureland, milking parlor, and farm equipment), Randleigh Dairy Heritage Museum, and the Howling Cow Dairy Education Center and Creamery (HCDECC).

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Directing all the dairy science research operations and personnel at the dairy plant, dairy farm, and HCDECC (includes planning, designing, executing and evaluating all research and outreach activities)
Ensuring that policies and procedures (including food safety) are in place throughout the DES supply chain
Managing how relations are with stakeholders (NC State faculty, staff, and students; Rave Catering; Department of Corrections – Division of Prisons; NC dairy industry; public) via face-to-face and social media channels
Fostering external relations to facilitate the supply (inflow and outflow) of raw milk to optimize research resources
Planing, designing, delegating implementation, and evaluating animal care on a daily basis and during emergencies (especially, weather-related)
Developing a vision and plan for financial sustainability and growth of the DES relative to research and outreach auxiliary, grant, and industry sponsorships. This includes providing strategic guidance to DES employees and managers on how to successfully write proposals, obtain funding, and manage funding awards for all research and community outreach projects.
Responsible for understanding and applying University, State, and Federal research and outreach policies and procedures within the research, teaching, extension, and outreach (agritourism) activities at each of the DES facilities to grow and sustain all DES programs.
