The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage and secure information to accomplish its missions. This position is a member of the Healthcare Professional Service Applications team and is responsible for the selection, implementation, support and maintenance of Departmental Healthcare Information Systems. The departments include, but are not limited to, Laboratory, Radiology, Casey Eye Institute, Pharmacy, Emergency Department, Transplant, Cardiovascular Services, Respiratory Care, Rehab Services, Surgery, Medical Records, Poison Control, Food & Nutrition, Patient Transportation, Radiation Therapy, Quality and Safety, Patient Billing, Health Information Management, Infection Prevention, Facilities... This position will also have responsibilities for supporting third party applications at OHSU and partners.Responsibilities include: - Maintaining an in depth knowledge about IT Departmental operations, procedures, regulatory requirements and currently installed information systems for the closely related service groups assigned to support application products.
- Developing operational needs assessments to identify opportunities for improving systems-related workflow, methods and procedures through appropriate application of information technologies and knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; develop cost-benefit analyses; document recommendations; and work with staff, management, end user and vendor personnel to implement changes.
- Leading in maintenance, operational troubleshooting and coordinating repair of systems and applications to ensure maximal operational effectiveness. Documenting and communicating change controls.
- Ensuring the interfaces of systems and medical devices are maintained, and necessary changes are implemented, tested and documented in a reliable manner.
- Monitoring utilization of information systems and applications, prepare recommendations for modifying configurations to accommodate changing end user and regulatory requirements.
- Working with vendors and resources on other teams, as appropriate, to jointly resolve cases. Investigating root cause and making sure measures are taken and documented in incident report to avoid another incident.
- Demonstrating a commitment to departmental and project-based teamwork as shown by timely team communication, follow-through on assigned responsibility, and willingness to search for opportunities for improvement.
- Participating in HPSAs established on-call rotations.
- Participating in special meetings and work groups; including team members, end users, Information Systems staff and management.
- Contributing to the knowledge base by adding and supplementing entries.

Education: - Bachelors degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and six years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operations healthcare environments; OR
- Associates degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and seven years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
- Eight years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associates degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelors degree.
- Two or more years of paid work experience as a Systems/Application Analyst or Application Administrator.
Experience: Successful candidates must have experience and working knowledge in operating system software, relational and/or hierarchical databases, and technical application support for administrative and clinical systems. - Experience in the analysis and design of systems and experience with databases such as Oracle, MS SQL, etc.
- Experience in developing specifications for system-to-system interfaces.
- Successful clients must have experience in managing multiple projects
- Experience in managing complex customer relationships in an enterprise setting
Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Strong organizational skills
- Strong Project Management skills, including demonstrated management of successful projects from scheduling, design, testing, and implementation.
- Proven Knowledge of System Development Life Cycle. Strong system analysis skills.
- Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of various operating systems such as Windows, UNIX, AIX
- Ability to use a microcomputer with Windows and various Microsoft applications.

Education: - BS Degree in Computer Science or related field
Experience: - Experience in Healthcare Information Systems
- Experience in terminal emulation software, file transfer, and data conversions.
- Experience in writing system validation plans
- Experience and/or training in one or more of the following health information systems: Imaging, Cardiology (Echoes), Labs, Pharmacy systems and EPIC
Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Working knowledge of HL7 and TCP/IP
- Working knowledge of MS Access Database and report writing tool
- Working knowledge of Healthcare information systems supported by this workgroup.
