The Department of Dermatology at UC Irvine's School of Medicine is committed to advancing clinical care, education and research to help patients with diverse dermatological conditions. The department's world-class faculty is dedicated to preparing medical students and residents for careers in private practice and academia. Our vibrant educational program is designed to help residents and fellows treat the gamut of dermatologic conditions with conventional and ground breaking therapies, and to conduct sophisticated clinical development programs from basic pharmaceutical studies to phase III clinical trials.The department's faculty is actively engaged in clinical, translational and basic research as principal investigators. Our faculty works in the Dermatology Clinical Research Center, which is involved in all phases of clinical testing, including Food & Drug Administration approval of investigational drugs and lasers, new indications for drugs, over-the-counter products and pharmaceuticals for cosmetic use. At UC Irvine, our dermatopathology laboratory provides expertise in the pathology of the skin. The lab serves community physicians and UC Irvine Medical Center as well as supporting departmental clinical and basic research protocols. The Department of Dermatology has been transformed over the past 8 years, and is now nationally recognized as a leading program for clinical practice, research and teaching. With 8 faculty, 15 residents, 1 ACGME procedural fellow, and 1 clinical research fellow the program is well positioned to continue to develop further the educational mission of the program.
