The Product Innovation Manager, reporting to the EVP of Strategic Initiatives, will participate in all areas of research and development including, but not limited to, formulation development, raw material evaluation, technical troubleshooting, packaging testing, and employee training to meet company standards for product quality, production efficiency, and profitability by performing these duties in a timely manner. This position works in all areas of Clyde’s manufacturing facilities with direct exposure to ingredients, mixes (powders and liquids), equipment, and packaging.
Enhance look, taste and flavor of current products and develop new products to take to market.
Manage formulation development and provide nutritional insight.
Prepare specifications and operating guidelines for product development and communicate relevant information to management stakeholders.
Work closely with cross-functional teams, acting as a product development team lead to drive execution across multiple projects while maintaining and achieving timelines to ensure speed to market.
Lead multiple projects and teams through a complex scope and varying priorities concurrently.
Partner with operations, finance, quality and regulatory for new product launches, changes to formulation, development of processes and procedures and problem resolution when necessary.
Work directly with purchasing and quality assurance to evaluate new ingredients, ingredients out of specification, and alternate vendor ingredients.
Manage conflicts as they arise that could jeopardize the success of the project that come from resource constraints, requirement changes, technical risks, communication problems, etc.
Evaluate, test and approve new and/or alternate ingredients, materials and vendor packaging components to minimize or eliminate potential problems with manufacturing, distribution, product integrity, product quality, and assigned shelf life.
Lead, coordinate and participate in regular operational and product reviews.
Organize and manage resources to ensure timely completion of projects that meet company deadlines, operating budget and research and development departmental goals.
Manage multiple priorities and the changing dynamics of projects and organizational needs.
Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business or other related field.
More than 5 years of experience within the food/bakery industry. Experience with icing/wet/dry mixes preferred.
Ability to work in a “hands-on” environment.
Working knowledge of the baking process and the function of ingredients.
Proven work record with demonstrated high levels of initiative and self-direction.
Demonstrated strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Strong project management skills and experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver results.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with technical and non-technical employees.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
