The Department of Dermatology, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University invites applications for post-doctoral candidates with strong skills in data mining and statistical analysis. This research position provides a unique opportunity for applied researchers who are interested in building a career in clinical and epidemiological research. Dermatology provides rich resources for conducting research including a broad scientific portfolio with multiple, large scale datasets and collaborative relationships across Northwestern’s biomedical and life sciences campuses. We are seeking post-doctoral candidates whose research focuses on clinical and epidemiological applications of data mining and advanced statistical methods. The ideal candidate will have expertise in SAS software, advanced statistical methods, including longitudinal data analysis, regression modeling, survival analysis, mediation and moderation, and power calculations. Research projects will evaluate the epidemiology and burden of dermatologic disorders using a wide range of analytic methods.
This position will receive a minimum of two hours per week of individual supervision by a co-investigator on the faculty. Collaboration in multiple research projects will be arranged.
The post-doctoral candidate will oversee data querying, extraction, managing and analyzing multiple, complex datasets, ensuring data integrity, quality, and timeliness of results, and data consolidation. In addition, they will develop statistical analysis plans and perform advanced statistical analyses, including regression modeling, mixed models, longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, mediation, moderation, factor analysis, and sample size calculations.
The post-doctoral candidate will focus the majority of his/her time on analysis and writing assignments that will both benefit the sponsoring projects as well as to serve as an excellent platform for promotion (potentially at Northwestern and certainly at other institutions as well). We have created a large series of datasets based upon our development and validation. These datasets are the results of the efforts of many years of data collection and have very robust data. In addition, we have acquired multiple nationally representative datasets that are invaluable for assessing the population-based burden of skin disease. While numerous papers have been produced from these datasets, many primary analyses are left un-conducted and therefore unpublished. The post-doc positon will be responsible for effecting the production of as many as 10 articles per year, at least half of which will be first-authored by the post-doc. The post doc will actively participate in multiple research projects for ongoing grant funded research. In addition, the post doc will actively participate in the selection of additional research topics. The positon will also participate in grant writing activities.
Post-doc will complete all activities by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and all relevant current local, state, and federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy and procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).

This position is open to individuals who have completed a Ph.D. program in statistics or epidemiology.
Candidates should have extensive experience with quantitative analysis and a strong record of scholarly publication, appropriate given experience.
Experience with SAS software, data mining and cleaning techniques, advanced regression analysis, mixed models, longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, factor analysis, multiple imputations and other techniques for handling missing data, and sample size calculation are required.
Candidates with experience in development and application of advanced statistical methods are encouraged to apply.
